- What is retention marketing?
- Retention marketing is everything that increases how much an existing customer buys over their lifetime: identity capture, loyalty mechanics, lifecycle messaging and the product-side levers behind them. It's measured in cohort repeat rate and revenue per identified customer, not in campaign performance.
- How do you choose a retention marketing agency?
- Check whether they can change your data, not just your messages; whether they report on cohorts; and whether the engagement is continuous rather than a fixed sprint ending in a handover deck. Ask to see the metrics they'd hold themselves to in month three.
- What's the difference between retention marketing and lifecycle marketing?
- Lifecycle marketing is the messaging layer: the flows and campaigns triggered by customer behaviour. Retention marketing is the broader outcome, and it includes the data capture, loyalty mechanics and product-side levers that make those messages possible.
- Do we need a loyalty program?
- Only if it earns its place. A loyalty program is worth building when it captures data you can't get any other way and reinforces the brand. Points-for-discounts programs usually do neither.
- How do you measure retention work?
- Cohort repeat purchase rate, time between orders, revenue per identified customer and share of revenue from known customers. Not open rates.
- Do you work with retail and hospitality, or only DTC?
- All three. The capture mechanics differ — POS and reservations instead of checkout — but the system is the same.
